How to Make Custom Wristbands for Events

Wristbands play an important role in event planning. Though frequently overlooked, when it comes to adding value and security to your events, wristbands are for sure a “must have”. There are many kinds of event wristbands, and they serve different purposes. In this article, we will discuss the different kinds of wristbands you can use at your event. We will also discuss how Wristband Resources makes it easy to customize wristbands for your next event.

Different Kinds of Event Wristbands

Admissions and Security

There are two main categories when it comes to event wristbands—those that add value, and those that are regulatory in nature. Of course, there is some overlap between the two (more on this later). For example, here in Milwaukee, we have Summerfest, which is an enormous music festival stretching over multiple weekends. When you buy admission to the event, you are given (surprise, surprise) a wristband to prove that you paid and are not trespassing. Each day of the event is assigned a specific color for added security.

Value

Aside from being a tool used for admissions, some wristbands are used to add value to the event itself. For example, many charities and nonprofit organizations use wristbands to both raise funds for their cause and add additional value for attendees. For example, The Susan G. Komen Foundation holds a series of 5k races and other events that raise funds for breast cancer research. The Race for the Cure participants often are given a free t-shirt, wristband, and other merchandise to commemorate and add value to the event. Furthermore, the merchandise raises further awareness for the cause. In fact, the bright pink wristbands have become iconic as people now associate the color with the cause.

Security and Value

Radio-frequency identification (RFID) wristbands act as a way to prove admission status as well as add additional value to guests using technology. RFID is a technology that uses radio waves to automatically identify people through an RFID chip or tag embedded in the wristband. RFID wristbands are used for access control, cashless payment, data collection, social interaction, and more. Additional benefits of using RFID wristbands include increased speed of service, increased revenue and profitability, simplified processes and procedures, fraud prevention, and greater operational efficiency.

Wristband Materials

There are also multiple materials you can choose from that are preferred for different occasions and events. For instance, cloth wristbands are ideal for events that last multiple days (we recommend 3-7 days of usage) because they are much more comfortable than other materials. The following are some of the most popular event wristband materials.

Tyvek® (Paper) Wristbands

Often referred to as paper wristbands, Tyvek® offers an inexpensive way to verify patrons at your next event. Tyvek® is the perfect material for both indoor and outdoor events. Our customers use Tyvek® wristbands for everything from waterparks to nightclubs, corporate retreats to concerts. You name it! The great thing about these wristbands is that they are waterproof and fade-resistant. We offer these wristbands in ¾ inch and 1-inch widths. We also offer bands that have tear-off voucher tabs that can be used for food, beverages, and raffles.

Plastic Wristbands

Plastic wristbands are highly durable and are very versatile. These wristbands can be used for virtually any event, and come in various styles. The two most popular styles are holographic and wide wristbands.

Holographic Wristbands

Plastic holographic wristbands offer eye-catching designs that add spank to any event. These wristbands are also difficult to replicate, making it easy to legitimize guests.

Wide Wristbands

Wide plastic wristbands allow for more customization. This wider wristband grants you more imprint area so you can create a really appealing design.

Vinyl Wristbands

Vinyl wristbands are the most durable wristband material. Made from a three-layer vinyl construction, these wristbands can last as long as 14 days. They are also not easily removed, making it unlikely that they will fall off accidentally. Every band has a snap closure that cannot be unsnapped without destroying the band. To remove, we recommend carefully cutting the band with scissors. Our vinyl wristbands can have up to 7 tear-off tickets that can be used as vouchers to redeem beverages, food, and more.

Silicone Wristbands

Silicone wristbands are great for adding value to your events. Many nonprofits and charities sell silicone wristbands to raise funds for their causes. The reason for their popularity boils down to two things—price and exposure. In terms of price, when purchased in bulk, the unit price of a single wristband can be as low as 16 cents. The margin on this product can be enormous. In a quick search on Amazon, you can find silicone wristbands that support a cause selling for as high as 6 dollars. In terms of exposure, wristbands are an article, unlike t-shirts and other apparel items, that rarely get taken off. People wear wristbands everywhere and often forget they are even wearing them. This makes it easier to reach more people.

Customizing Your Event Wristbands

By now in this article, you probably have a better idea of the different wristband options you have for your event, and an idea of the material you want to use. Now, it is time for the fun part—customization! Using our online configurator, you can quickly create a personalized design that will add value to your next event.

First, you will want to select a preview color for your wristband. Note that this is simply to help you visualize your design. Final colors and quantities will be selected in a later step. You will also want to select your imprint color for the text.

Next, click ‘Next Step’. Here you will write your text and select your font and font size. Be sure to proofread what you have written. Our machines are not sentient and can only imprint what is given to them.

Click ‘Next Step’ again. Now, we will add some graphics. You can add your own logo and graphics if you please. Otherwise, we have a library of clipart you can choose from. To begin, click ‘Add Graphic’. Then select ‘Change’ under the box that reads No Logo. From here, you can upload an image from your device, or use one of ours—your choice!

Lastly, click ‘Next Step’ one more time. Select the box that reads I approve this design if you are ready to move forward. From there, you will select the band colors you would like to order. Simple!
