Many people think the word 'Wristband' is spelt 'Wrist Band' or 'Wrist-band', but the grammatically correct way is to spell it is 'Wristband'. A wristband is a strip of material that people wear on their wrists. There are many different kinds of materials wristbands are made out of, but the most popular ones are Tyvek, Plastic, Vinyl, Silicone, and Cloth.
Tyvek Wristbands
This type of wristband is made from DuPont Tyvek which is a material that is paper-like but more durable and known for its tear resistant and lightweight feel. These are applied with an adhesive one time use closure, so it’s great for security purposes. Tyvek wristbands are best for short term use, such as 1 to 2 days. Because they are for short term purposes, they are great for 1-day events, school field trips, trampoline parks, resorts, amusement parks, waterparks, and so much more. This way you will be able to identify people based on if they are wearing a wristband/what color wristband they’re wearing.
Plastic Wristbands
The next material that is common is plastic wristbands. These are a little more durable than the Tyvek wristbands, making them last 3-7 days. This means they are great for multi-day use like festivals or hotel/waterpark passes. These also have a one time use closure to them, however, it is a plastic snap that attaches the band together to fit on the wrist.
Vinyl Wristbands
This type of security wrist-band is the next step up from plastic wristbands, because Vinyl wristbands are made with a three-layer construction. This makes them even more durable which has them lasting up to 2 weeks! One of many purposes for vinyl wristbands is for hospital patients for identification reasons.
Cloth Wristbands
Cloth wristbands are unique and provide a classier look compared to the other wristband types. The cloth material is also very durable that are great for multiple day use, such as 3 to 7 days. These wristbands come with a one time use plastic closure (if ordered online), however, if you call and order, we will be able to make your cloth wristbands with a closure that will allow you to reuse the wristbands.
Silicone Wristbands
Unlike the other wristbands listed, Silicone wristbands are different. They aren’t for security purposes because they can be removed and reused. They are a rubber like material that are very popular to wear for raising awareness or promotional purposes. They are made from 100% silicone, which means they are latex and lead-free wristbands. They are also SDS certified, and also resistant to heat, chemicals, and UV light. Because of their durable material and ability to be taken off they will last years!
What Are Wristbands Used For?
Wristbands are for identification purposes or worn as an accessory. Our Tyvek, plastic, vinyl, and cloth wristbands are for security purposes because they have a one time use closure. This means people will not be able to reuse the wristbands because they have to be destroyed to be taken off.
On the other hand, Silicone wristbands are used as an accessory since they can be removed and reused. This type of wristband is also great for promoting businesses, raising awareness for a cause, or for social distancing (red=social distance, yellow=elbow tap, green=high fives).
Also, not seen as often, but security wristbands are great for identifying the status of an object too. These are known as security tags. For example, a security Tyvek tag could be put on a product that is out of order so it communicates to everyone that it shouldn’t be used. Or differentiating objects that have been cleaned, you could mark with a green plastic wristband. Having the wristbands say “out of order” or “sanitized” clearly communicates to everyone what the status of the object/machine is.
