Plastic Wristbands vs. Vinyl Wristbands

Prior to working for Wristband Resources™, I couldn’t have told you the difference between plastic wristbands and vinyl wristbands. I had never given it much thought. And chances are you haven’t either until now as you try to find the best wristbands for your event or attraction. Don’t worry, we are here to help you make the right decision for your business. This article will discuss the differences between plastic wristbands and vinyl wristbands.

Plastic Wristbands

Plastic wristbands offer an additional level of security. To apply, your guests must lock the snap closure through one of the hole punctures, thus securing the band to the guest’s wrist. To remove, the band must be cut with scissors. This added level of security ensures that guests will not lose their wristbands while at your event.

Our plastic wristbands are great for multi-day use. We typically recommend that our customers use these for events that last up to seven days. Realistically, however, they can often be used for longer as long as they aren’t tampered with. They are excellent for indoor and outdoor events as they are waterproof and fade-resistant.

Vinyl Wristbands

Vinyl wristbands are often incorrectly referred to as plastic. Sure, they are both made from synthetic material, but the actual construction of the band is different. Vinyl wristbands are our most durable offering because they are constructed from three layers of vinyl. We recommend these for long-term use of up to 14 days.

Just like our plastic wristbands, vinyl wristbands are also waterproof and fade-resistant. However, because they are designed to be worn for up to two weeks, they are extremely comfortable and smooth. You need not worry about chafing or skin agitation when you use them.

Which option is best for me?

This might be the million-dollar question. To answer this, there are a few things to consider. First, how long do you anticipate your guests will need a wristband? Both band types are good for long-term use, but Vinyl offers greater durability. Next, how important is the price? Plastic wristbands are the less-expensive option, but only marginally. At the time of this being written (December of 2022) a single pack of 500 stock plastic wristbands costs $48.95. A 500-pack of the vinyl wristbands costs $51.50. If you are supplying wristbands for a small party, the difference in cost might not be a huge concern. But if you run a hotel or resort that sees thousands of guests each week, the difference in cost might be something to deeply consider.

To summarize, if you need wristbands designed for extended use, we recommend giving vinyl wristbands a try. On the other hand, if you don’t need as much durability and you are on a budget, we recommend plastic wristbands.
